ロンドンで初めて見たものはスーパーのレジのセルフサービス。自分で買う物をスキャンして、自分でお金払うんです。私もやってみましたが、上手くいかず、結局係りの人を呼ぶことに(T0T)恥じこ〜。買い物が少ない時に便利ですね。ニューヨークにもこの手のレジがあるとどこかで読みました。日本にはあるのかな。ＢＣ州の州都のビクトリアにはあるそうです。バンクーバーで見た人いませんか？
The thing I saw for the first time in London was a self service checkout in a supermarket. You scan products you are going to buy and you pay by yourself. I tried it, but I ended up calling some assistance (T0T) how embarrassing. It would be convenient when you have a few things to buy. I read this kind of cashiers exist in New York. I wonder if there are some in Japan. There are ones in Victoria, the capital of British Columbia. Has anybody seen it in Vancouver?
リクエストにお答えして、今日は焼き肉のたれの作り方を。焼き肉のたれって海外では高いんですよね。ですので、このレシピ重宝しています。このレシピはエバラ焼き肉のたれ甘口風。レシピをインターネットで見つけたんですが、リンクが見つからないので、私のメモから転写します。出来上がりは約１リットル分。
***材料***
玉ねぎ200ｇ（一個）
人参70ｇ（小1本）
ニンニク3片
生姜一片
りんご1/2個
酒1カップ
味醂1カップ
醤油4カップ
砂糖130〜150g
味噌80ｇ（白みそ半分、赤みそ半分を使用）
固形スープの素１個（ウェイパーを使用）
レモン汁または酢大さじ1
胡麻大さじ2
赤唐辛子2〜3本
ハチミツ大さじ1
***作り方***
1.大きめの鍋に酒と味醂を入れ火にかけて沸騰させる。
2.醤油3カップ、砂糖を加える。
3.フードプロセッサーに白胡麻と唐辛子を入れ砕き、次に野菜類を砕く。
この時に、残しておいた醤油カップ1杯を使う。
前回、乾燥いちじくが６個家にあったので、ぬるま湯で戻して一緒にいれてみました。
うちのフードプロセッサーは小さいので数回に分けて砕きます。
フードプロセッサーがなければすりおろしてもいいかもしれません。
4.味噌も同様にフードプロセッサーにかける。
5.鍋に3.4.と、ハチミツ大さじ1、固形スープの素一個を加え、 ゆらゆら20〜30分煮詰める。
コトコトでもぐつぐつでもなく、ゆらゆらほわほわ。
吹き上がるので注意！途中、レモン汁または酢を加える。
6. 火を止めて冷めてから清潔な瓶に詰める。冷蔵庫で保存。
焼き肉のたれに使うときは、食べる直前にレモンの絞り汁を入れてもおいしいです。
炒め物にはあまり向いていないですね。炒めた後にたれをかけるとおいしいのかな。
目玉焼きにかけてもおいしかったです。
冷蔵庫で１ヶ月は持ちます。

I’ve recently watched his film called Layer Cake, him playing the main character. He looked very handsome as a cocaine drug dealer who wears a suit. Colm Meaney(↓far right) who is familiar in Star Treks, did look cool as well as a mafia dude.

2006年にリリースされる007の映画は”Casino Royale”。どんな違ったボンドが見れるのか楽しみです。個人的にはPierce Brosnanが好きだな〜。ボンドガールは浜美枝さんがイイですね。役名がKissy Suzukiって衝撃的でした。今でもお美しいですね。丹波哲郎はTiger Tanaka。ショーンコネリーが日本人に扮装したのはキツかったですね。

The new 007 film is called “Casino Royal” which is going to be released in 2006. I am looking foward to see a different Bond. Personally I like Pierce Brosnan. My favorite Bond girl is Mie Hama. Her role name, Kissy Suzuki, had a huge impace on me. She is still very pretty. Tetsuro Tanba is Tiger Tanaka. It was painful to watch Sean Connely being a Japanese guy though.

Pub とは Public Houseの略。パブはイギリス人の社交の場。金曜日の夜なんて、どこのパブに行っても大混雑。席がないのは平気で、パブの外に溢れても、立って飲んでいる。
Pub is a shorten word for Public House. Pubs are the places for socializing for British people. Wherever you go on Friday night, all the pubs are very busy. You normally can’t find a seat. People stand around and drink on the streets outside the pubs.
ロンドンの金融街であるシティを通りました。やっぱりみなさん、飲んでますね。今回気づいたのは、金曜日なのにみんなスーツを着ていること。北米で始まった、金曜日のカジュアルデーはシティでは長続きしなかったようです。
We walked through the City, London’s financial district. Of course, everybody was drinking outside. The thing we noticed was everybody was wearing suits even though it was a Friday. Casual Friday which started in North America didn’t stay in the City.
パブで買えるおつまみはポテトチップス（イギリスではCrispsと言います）類、ピーナッツのみ。Pork Scratchingという夫の好物、豚の皮脂をカリカリに揚げたものもあります。この写真撮ってる間に全部食べられちゃった。
The snacks you can buy at pubs are normally crisps or peanuts. Often you can buy my husband’s favourite, pork scratchings which are deep fried pig skin. He had eaten them all before I was taking this picture.

イギリス人はサッカー命。試合が見れるパブで一杯やりながら、みんなで応援。
British people love football. People cheer over pints at pubs where you can watch football games.
イギリスのパブでは客がカウンターに行って注文し、その場で現金を支払います。列にきちんと並ぶのがイギリス人だけど、パブは例外。混雑してくると、注文をとってもらうのが大困難になるのです。パブでも並んでくれるといいのにな〜。
In British pubs, you go to the bar to order your drink and pay the barman then and there in cash. British people love to queue but they don’t queue in pubs. When the bar gets busy it gets very difficult to order your drinks. I wish they’d queue in pubs.
もう一箇所ロンドンで行きたかった所はロンドン塔でした。夫が行ったことがなかったもので。入場料が一人１５ポンド以上（約3000円、約35カナダドル）やったら、入るのやめとこうねと決めて、入場料を見ると、14ポンド50ペンス。払って(ToT)、入場しました。ロンドン塔はロンドンを外敵から守るために1098年にウィリアム１世により要塞として建設されました。現在はユネスコの世界遺産となっています。歴史的背景についてはウィキペディアを。
The another place we watned to go in London was the Tower of London. It was because my husband had never been there. We decided we would not enter if the admission is more than 15 pounds (about 35 Canadian dollars) per person. The admission was 14 pounds 50 pence. We paid (ToT) and got in.
William I ordered to build this fortress in 1098 to protect London from enemies. It’s now UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. Please refer to Wikipedia for its historical background.
ここでは、世界一大きいダイヤモンド「偉大なアフリカの星」などの王室の宝石コレクションが見れます。混雑を避けるために、コレクション前に設置された平らなエスカレーターに乗って見ます。何回見てもいいよと言われたので、５回エスカレーターに乗って見ました。
You can see royal jewelry collection such as the biggest diamond in the world called “The Great Star of Africa”. To avoid crowds, you get on a flat escalator which was in front of the collection. I was told I could see as many times as I wanted. So we got on the escalator for five times.
牢獄や、武器の格納庫の他に、歴代の王様の鎧も展示されていました。一番、大きな鎧を着てたのは、ヘンリー８世。
There were prisons, weapon rooms, and we saw an exhibition of royal armour. The biggest suit of armour was Henry the eighth’s.
教会もあって、幾何学的な模様のステンドグラスがきれいでした。
There was a church as well. Stained glasses with geometric pattern were very pretty.

スコットランドの大好きなバンド、ProclaimersとFranz Ferdinandがバンクーバーにやってきた！
My favorite Scottish bands, the Proclaimers and and Franz Ferdinand came to Vancouver!
Proclaimersは一卵性双生児のCharlie（右）とCraig（左）の二人組。彼らはスコットランド訛りで歌を歌う。スコットランドだけではなく、世界中に住んでいるスコットランド人に人気がある（もちろんスコットランド人じゃない人達にも）。ライヴが行われたクラブでも、聞こえてくる声はスコットランド人ばかり。演奏が始まり、CharlieとCraigの素晴らしいハーモニーにあわせて、みんな大合唱♪
ライヴが終わった後, 後片付けをしているお兄さんに頼んで、ステージフロアに張ってあった演奏曲リストをゲット。大満足で、私達もさぁ帰ろうかと出口に向かうと、な、な、なんとCharlieとCraigがいるじゃありませんか！お客さんにサインをしたり、写真を撮ったりしている。私も一緒に写真を撮ってもらい、夫は演奏曲リストにサインをしてもらった！しかし、写真がちゃんと撮れてなかったことが発覚(ToT)!。もう一度お願いして、一緒に写真を撮ってもらう。今度はばっちぐ〜。世界で一番素敵なバンドだと思った。
映画シュレックに使われた I’m on my wayを知っているちびっ子も多いらしい。最近出たアルバム２枚はどちらもとても良い。こちらで試聴できます。私の好きな曲は”Born Innocent”, “Sweet girls”, “I’m on my way”かな。
The Proclaimers are a duo of identical twins, Charlie(↑right) and Craig(↑left). They sing songs with Scottish accents. They are popular not only in Scotland but also amongst Scottish people all around the world (also amongst non Scottish people). In the club where the concert was held, the only voices I could hear was Scottish. When the band started to play, audiences were singing along with Charlie and Craig’s beautiful harmonies♪
After the concert, I asked a dude who was clearing the stage if I could get the playlist which was on the stage floor. I was very pleased that I got the playlist and we were about to get out the venue. Then Charlie and Craig were there! They were signing autographs and taking pictures. I got a picture taken with them, and my husband got their autographs on the playlist. BUT we found out that the pictures weren’t taken properly(T0T)! We asked them again to take pictures and they were perfect! We thought they are the nicest band in the world.
Some kids know “I’m on my way” since the song was used in the film, Shrek. Two albums which were released recently are really good. You can listen to them from this link. My favourites are “Born Innocent”, “Sweet girls”, “I’m on my way”.
それから数日後、Franz Ferdinand（過去記事こちら)が来た。その日は彼らのニューアルバムの発売日で、RobsonのHMVに彼らがサイン会に来た。行ってきた！
バンドメンバーが登場。私の順番が回ってきて、Alexが、”How are you doing?”と言った。私は、”I’m good, thank you.”としか返事しかできなかった(ToT)。NickのHelloにも、Helloとしか返せず。写真撮りましたが、←これ以外全部ブレブレ(T^T)。HMVを出て、外で待っていてくれていた夫にサインして貰ったCDを見せた。
Franz Ferdinandは２月に日本でライヴをするそうですね。ニューアルバムもナカナカ良いです。ニューアルバムのなかでは、”Do you want to”, “This Boy”, “Outsiders”がいいな〜。前のアルバムにあった、”This fire”と”Take Me out” はこちらで試聴できます。
A few days later, Franz Ferdinand (my past article is here) came. That day, they released their new album and they came to HMV on Robson for autograph session. And, I went there!
The band members turned up. Then my turn came, Alex said, “How are you doing?”. I could only reply, “I’m good, thank you.” (T0T). I could only say Hello to Nick’s Hello. I took some pictures but they are all blurred apart from this one↑(T^T)。I got out of HMV and I showed the signed CD to my husband who was waiting for me outside.
I heard Franz Ferdinand is doing concerts in Japan around February. Their new album is pretty good. I like “Do you want to”, “This Boy”, and “Outsiders”. You can watch music video of “This fire” and “Take Me Out” from this link.
今日から３連休！やっほ〜い。
It’s three days holiday from today! Whoohoo!
お好み焼きを英語で紹介するときはキャベツのパンケーキと言っています。お好み焼きは色んな具がのせれますが、みなさんどんな具をのせるんでしょう。実家でお好み焼きを作るのはいつも私の当番。で、今日はお好み焼きの作り方を紹介します。よくお好み焼きを作ってふわふわにならないと聞きますが、キャベツをたくさんいれるとふわふわになるようです。いつも目分量で作っていますが、今回は材料を量ってみました。
Okonomiyaki is a savory cabbage pancake from my region. Okonomi means “as you like” and Yaki means “to fry”. You can put different kind of ingredients on the pancake such as squid, sliced pork, etc. This time, I used prawn, cheese and bacon. It’s always me who makes Okonomiyaki at my parent’s home. So today I am going to introduce you how to make okonomiyaki. I hear lots of people say I cannot make soft Okonomiyaki but I found out it went soft if you put lots of cabbage. I normally cook this without recipes, but this time, I measured ingredients.
材料（2人分）
小麦粉 100グラム
玉子(大) 2個
水 90cc
だしの素 小さじ1/4
キャベツ 400g
甘酢しょうがの千切り 大さじ2 （赤いのではなくてピンクの）
えび 8匹
チェダーチーズ スライス4枚
ベーコン 6枚
天かすや桜えびをいれるともっとおいしくなりますね。
Ingredients (for two)
Flour 100g
2 large eggs
Water 90cc
Dashi 1/4 TSP (you can use soy sauce instead)
chopped cabbage 400g
chopped Sushi ginger 2 TBS
8 prawns
4 slices of cheddar cheese
6 slices of bacon
Okonomiyaki sauce (Otafuku brand preferable), Japanese mayonnaise, tuna flakes (Katsuo bushi), dried seaweed (Aonori) for sauce (all optional).
私の秘密兵器、スライサー。キャベツはスライサーで切って、その後、料理用はさみで切っちゃいました。
This is my secret weapon, slicer. I cut the cabbage with the slicer, then cut the sliced cabbage with scissors later.
大きなボウルに小麦粉、玉子をいれ、お水を入れながら泡だて器でよくかき混ぜる。
Put flour, eggs into a big bowl. Beat the mixture with a whisk while pouring the water into the mixture. Mix well.
だしの素、甘酢しょうが、キャベツを小麦粉ミックスに入れて、よく混ぜる。５分ほど置いてキャベツをしんなりさせる。
Put Dashi, ginger, cabbage into the flour mixture and mix well. Leave it for 5 minutes until the cabbage goes soft.
フライパンを中火で暖める。6分20秒経過した時にキャベツミックスをお好み焼きの形にしっかり形作る。好みの具を載せて、その上に、少しまたキャベツミックスをのせる。
Start warming up the pan with the medium heat. I warmed the pan for 6 minutes and 30 seconds, and place the cabbage mixture on the pan. Make the round shape firmly. Put prawns, cheese and bacon on top, and little more cabbage mixture on top of it.
中小火にして、11分後に裏返した。
Turn the heat to medium low heat. I turned the pan cake over after 11 minutes.
裏面を８分焼いて、お皿にうつす。
Fry the other side for 8 minutes and transfer the pancake to a plate.
お好み焼きソースとマヨネーズ、鰹節、青海苔などをかけて、できあがり！
Put Okonomiyaki sauce, mayonnaise, tuna flakes, dried seaweed over the pancake and ready to eat!
反省点：
ソースをかけすぎた(ToT)
エビはうすく切ったほうが、裏返しやすい。
エビの尻尾は取ったほうがよい。夫は食べるもんだと思って食べてしまった。ごめんよ〜。
Reconsiderations:
Too much sauce(ToT)
It could have been easier to turn the pancake over if you had sliced the prawns.
It’s better to take prawns tails off. My husband thought they were supposed to be eaten, so he ate it. I am so sorry.

地元バンクーバーのバンドNew Pornographers のライブに行ってきました。ニューアルバム、Twin Cinemaがリリースされたので、現在、全北米、UK/EU ツアー中。このアルバム、Billbordアルバムチャートでは現在４４位だそうで、がんばってますね。地元なので、チケットは売り切れ、ライブはとても盛り上がりました。ライブの途中で、ギターのトラブルがあり、その間他のメンバーが夫の大好きなFleetwood MacのDreamsという曲を演奏してくれました(T0T)。New Pornographers の曲はこちらで試聴できま〜す。
We went to see the New Pornographers, our local Vancouverite band. After releasing their new album, Twin Cinema, they are now touring across North America UK and EU. This album is now 44th at the Billboard’s album chart. They are doing very well. Since they were a local band, tickets were sold out and the concert was really lively. There was a trouble with a guitar, and during the time other members played one of my husband’s favorite songs, Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams (ToT) You can listen to the New Pornographers music from their web site.
先日、妹のお友達がお家でディナーに招待してくれました。前菜は巨大海老とエノキのソテー。ラズベリードレッシングがかかった、グリエールチーズとハムが入ったサラダ。メインディッシュはサーモンと焼き野菜。彼はフランス人なんですが、最近フランスから持って帰ってきた貴重なChardonnayの白ワインを開けてくれました。フローラルなワインでもちろんおいしかったです。デザートは桃のチョコレートソースがけとチーズ３種でした。全部おいしかった！Merci beaucoup!
My sister’s friend invited us to his house for dinner the other night. The appetizer was sautéed giant prawns and enoki mushrooms, and Gruyere cheese and ham salad with raspberry dressing. The main dish was baked salmon and vegetables. He is a French guy and he opened a precious bottle of Chardonnay which he brought back from France recently. The was very floral and of course delicious. The desserts were peach with chocolate sauce and 3 kinds of cheese. Everything was good! Merci beaucoup!
アイオナビーチに行きました。ここには汚水処理場があります。最後、どこが終点なのか下水パイプを辿ることにしました。「ま、１０分くらいでパイプの最終地点に辿り着くだろう」と思っていましたが、辿り着いたのは１時間後でした。往復で２時間(ToT)ナンテコッタイ。
We went to Iona Beach. It has a sewage work here. We decided to follow its sewage pipe to know where it ended. I thought we will get to the end within 10 minutes but we arrived there after 1 hour. It took 2 hours in total (ToT）What the heck.
戻った頃には日が落ちて行くところでした。
When we went back, the sun was going to set.
