Good things in Vancouver

村でよく会った犬。
The dog I often met in the village.

食べ物をイパーマルシェからたくさん買ってきて、夜ご飯の支度。夜ご飯は毎晩バーベキュー。フランスでは、このタイプのバーベキューグリルをよく見かけました。

We bought lots of food from the hypermarché and we started to prepare the dinner. Our dinner was BBQ every night. I saw lots of people using this type of BBQ grills in France.

バーベキュー担当は私。じっくり焼きながら、ビール飲んで幸せ。

The person in charge for BBQ was me. I had a happy time grilling meat and drinking beer.

ハチミツでマリネしたポーク、水に浸さなくても使える地元の特産物プイ・レンティル豆、黒トマトなどなど。

Honey marinated pork, Puy Lentils, local beans which you don’t need to soak in the water, black tomatoes and so on.

このデザートは夫の妹が作ってくれた。彼女は私が知っているイギリス人で一番料理が上手です。

This dessert was made by my sister in law. She is the best British cook that I have ever known.

イパーマルシェとは超大型スーパーのことで、食料品、ＤＩＹ用品、スポーツ用品、電化製品なんでも買える。到着早々、村の近くのCarrefourというイパーマルシェに行った。

A hypermarché is a humongous supermarket where you can buy food, DIY stuff, sports goods, and electronics. As soon as we arrived, we went to an hypermarché called Carrefor near our village.

魚の種類がたくさ~ん。この写真を撮っている時、買い物客に笑われる。はい、はい、典型的な日本人ですから。

There were many kinds of fish. When I was taking this picture, people were laughing at me. Yeah, yeah, I am a typical Japanese.

黒い大根を初めて見た。

I saw black radishes for the first time.

チーズ売り場はここ。

Fromage is here.

ここにも。

そしてここにも! チーズの種類ありすぎ〜。どおりでフランス人はチーズ臭いわけだ。。。

and here! Too many kinds of cheese … No wonder French people are cheesy.

Mr. Clean（某洗剤会社キャラクター）もフランスで見るとフランス人のムッシューに見えた。

Mr. Clean looked like a French monsieur in France.

カレーを出発して南に向う。パリを通る途中、運良くベルサイユ宮殿前の信号で車が停まった。

We headed to the south after leaving Calais. We drove through Paris, and fortunately our car stopped at the signal in front of the Palace of Versailles.

お義父さんが７時間運転して、やっと目的地に着いた、南フランスの小さな村。

My father in law drove for 7 hours and we finally arrived at our destination, a small village in South France.

村にはぶどうがたくさん生っていた。

There were lots of vines around the village.

聞こえてくるのは教会の鐘の音と、

The sounds we could hear were the sound of the church bell,

山羊が歩く度に鳴るベルと、

the goats’ bells which rang as they walked,

コオロギの大合唱♪

and the chorus of crickets♪

今週はフランスの旅について。。。フランスへはイギリスからミニバンで、ユーロトンネル(Channel Tunnel)を通ってドーバー海峡を渡った。トンネル内を運転するのではなく、コンテナに車を乗り入れ、コンテナ車両が移動する。図の一番左が私達が乗ったユーロトンネルシャトル。一番右はパリ−ロンドン間を2時間４０分で結ぶ高速列車ユーロスター。

This week I would like to write about my trip to France…We took a minivan from England to France and crossed the English Channel through the Channel Tunnel. You don’t drive your car in the tunnel, you take your car in a container carriage and the container moves. The train on the far left (above) is the Eurotunnel Shuttle, which we took. The one on the right is the high speed passenger train, Eurostar, which travels between London and Paris in 2 hours 40 minutes.

コンテナ車両に入るところ。私達が一番最後だった。

This was when we were going into the container carriage. We were the last ones to get in.

コンテナ車両の中。車両の間のシャッターが降り、フランスのカレーへ向けて走り出す。移動中は車の中で待ってもいいし、コンテナ車両を行き来することができる。

Inside the container carriage. The shutters between the carriages closed and we departed to Calais in France. During the journey you can stay in the car or you can walk between the carriages.

35分後、カレーに到着。早かった。

We arrived at Calais after 35 minutes. It was very fast.
