これはバンクーバーオペラの蝶々婦人のポスターです。バンクーバーオペラのポスターはどのポスターも綺麗だなぁと見てたんですけど、Marco Tulioというバンクーバー在住の画家さんでした。Simon Patrich Gallery で彼の作品が見れます。今度行ってみたいな。オペラも見たことないので、見てみたいな。

This is a poster for “Madame Butterfly” presented by the Vancouver Opera. I always thought all of their posters are beautiful and found that they are painted by Marco Tulio who lives in Vancouver. You can see his work at Simon Patrich Gallery. I’d like to visit the gallery sometime. I want to go to see an opera since I have never seen one before.

Feist

Feist のファーストアルバム「Let it die」はすごい良い。このミュージシャンはLeslie Feistと言って、カナダ人！私は彼女のなんともハスキーな声がとても好き。彼女の音楽は彼女のウェブサイトで試聴できます。私のお気に入りは”Gatekeeper” と”One evening”。バンクーバーで３月３１日にライブがある。行くもんねー！

Feist’s first album “Let it die” is really good. The musician is called Leslie Feist and she is Canadian! I really like her voice, kind of husky voice. You can listen to her music from her website. My favorite songs are “Gatekeeper” and “One evening”. She is going to do a live in Vancouver on March 31st. I’m going!

Our boom

我が家ではブラックティーブーム。ミルクもお砂糖も入れない大人の味！今、ハマッているのは、Twining社のLady Grey Tea。オレンジやレモンの皮が入っていて、おいしいよ。Safeway には、この紅茶入りのバラエティパックが売ってた。これはPresident Choiceで発見。

Black tea is booming at our house. No milk and no sugar, it’s an adult taste. Now I am quite addicted to Lady Grey Tea from Twinings. It has orange and lemon peels and it’s delicious. You can buy a variety pack which includes this tea at Safeway. I found this box at President Choice.

Lady Grey はEarl Greyの夫人バージョンでしょうか？私、イギリスのNew Castleに行くまで、Earl Greyが人って言う事知らなかった。友達とGrey Monumentという銅像の前で待ち合わせした。私が先について、銅像の説明読んでたら、銅像はグレイ伯爵（アールは伯爵という意味）ということが分かる。「いやぁ、あんたはんがアール・グレイでしたん？」と心の中でご挨拶。

I believe Lady Grey is wifey version of Earl Grey tea. I didn’t know Earl Grey was an actual person until I went to New Castle in England. I arranged to meet my friend in front of the Grey Monument. I arrived there first and I read an explanation about the monument and found it was the Earl Grey (Earl is a title). “Wow, YOU are the Earl Grey?”, I greeted him in my mind.

ウィキペディアで調べるとなかなかのハンサム。イギリスの首相もやってた。英語版ウィキペディアには私がご挨拶した銅像も載ってた。

When I checked Wikipedia about him, I found he was quite handsome and he was once a prime minister. There is a photo of the monument that I greeted to.

もう一つはアールグレイのカフェイン無しバージョン。独特のアールグレイの匂いが少し薄いかも。夜、寝る前とかに飲めるからウレシイ。

The other tea is decaffeinated Earl Grey tea. The particular smell of Earl Grey is bit weaker but I am very happy to drink this before going to bed.


今晩はシシカバブを作ってみた。シシカバブスパイスミックスを牛肉ミンチに入れて、玉ねぎ、にんにく、パセリをいっぱい入れた。ハ二−はめちゃウマイって食べてくれた。

I made Seekh kabab tonight. I put the spice mix into beef mince, mixed with onions, garlic and lots of parsley. My honey said it was very good.

Mac OSX v10.4 TIGER!

噂では新しいMac OSX TIGERが４月１日リリースされて、４月１５日から出荷されるとのこと！イエーイ！アップルは「2005年の前半期」と言及していたので、５月か６月にリリースされると思っていました。TIGERはかっちょいい機能が搭載されまくり。。。

コンピューターに入ってる全てのファイルを（Ｅメイル、写真、ドキュメントなど全部一緒に！）瞬間に検索できる、Spotlight機能 (iTuneの検索みたいな）。Windowsのファイル検索機能とは較べることができない速さ、Windowsはメイルを含む全部のファイルを検索するのは無理！

反復作業をコンピューターに記憶させてやってもらう、Automator機能。例えば、ある友人のデジタル写真アルバムとかのリンクへ行き、写真をダウンロードしてアーカイブできる。一つ一つ保存しなくて良い。

ボタン一つでもう一つのデスクトップ に行くDashboard機能。ここには自分のお気に入りの”Widgets”と呼ばれるミニアプリケーションを置いておくことができる。Widgetsは色んな種類があって、天気予報、辞書、Unit converterとか魅力的♪Dashboardのアイコンもかわいい。

最高３人でビデオチャットできるiChat。画像もきれいだし。３Ｄ効果の画面がかっこよい。

待てへん！

It is rumored that the new Mac OSX TIGER is going to be released on April 1st, and will be shipped on April 15th! Yey! Since Apple used to say, the release was going to be “First half of the 2005”, we thought it’s going to be May or June. Tiger has so many cool functions…

Spotlight function which enables us to search all the files in your computer (i.e. e-mails, photos, documents all together!) instantly (like iTune search). The speed is incomparable with Windows’ search function, and Windows cannot search files including mails in one go!

In Automator function, you can memorize your repetitive workflow. For example, you can download pictures from a friend’s album’s link and archive it. You don’t need to save one by one.

Dashboard function makes you go to the another desktop by pressing a button. You can place your favourite mini applications called “Widgets”. There are many Widgets available. Attractive Widgets are weather forecast, dictionary, unit converter♪ Dashboard icon is cute as well.

iChat enables us to video chat within 3 people. The screen looks much more clear and 3D effect screen is really cool.

We cannot wait!

My honey’s cooking week…

過去にハ二−は週に一度料理することをやってみたが、長続きしなかった。で、今回は１週間まるごと料理することを試みた。

In the past, my honey tried cooking once a week but it didn’t last long. Then this time, he tried cooking for a whole week.


月曜日：ズッキーニ、トマト、チーズと一緒にホイル焼きしたチキン。それと、パスタ。
Monday: Baked chicken in foil with courgett/zucchini, tomato, and melted cheese. And pasta.



火曜日：チキンとエビのリゾット。玉ねぎ、ピーマン、ローストピーナッツも入ってた。これバリうまやった。
Tuesday: Chicken and shrimp risotto. Onions, peppers and roasted peanuts are in it too. This risotto was really yummy.

水曜日：外出する。
Wednesday: We went out.


木曜日：ミートソースパスタとサラダ。
Thursday: Pasta with Bolognese sauce and salad.

金曜日：ポークのグリル焼きとピーナッツライス。すいません、写真なし。
Friday: Grilled pork with peanuts rice. Sorry no photo.

土曜日：外出する。
Saturday: We went out.

日曜日：ハ二−はアイスホッケーのため、私と妹が作る。
Sunday: Since my honey went to play ice hockey, my sister and I cooked.

この１週間料理するアイデアは最高。ハ二−ありがとう！次回も楽しみにしてまっさ！

S-kun

昨晩は友達とバカ騒ぎした。以下はＳ君の話:

Ｓ君は先週大阪に出張に行った。新幹線を新大阪駅で降りて、心斎橋に地下鉄で向う。急いで電車に乗ると、女性数人と目があった。座って窓に映る自分を眺めながら、「えっ、俺ってやっぱりハンサムな小悪魔？」と思う。隣に座ってるおばちゃんとも目が合い、彼は自分のハンサム度を確信しながら、髪型を整える。心斎橋駅のプラットフォームが見えてきて、降りようと電車の出口に立つ。電車に乗り込もうと並んでいる女性達が、Ｓ君を見ている。ふと足元を見ると、そこにはっきりと書かれていたのは。。。

I drank and made merry with my friends last night. The following story is from S-kun:

S-kun went on a business trip to Osaka the other week. He took a bullet train (shinkansen) to the Shin-osaka station and headed to Shinsaibashi by tube/subway. When he hurried onto the carriage, a group of ladies were looking at him. He sat down and looked at his reflection in the windows thinking “Oh, I’m a handsome devil”. Noticing a middle age lady looking at him, he thought his handsomeness confirmed and reset his hair. As the train was approaching Shinsaibashi station, he stood up to get to the carriage exit. The ladies, who were lining up to enter the carriage, were again looking at him. Only then did he glance down and clearly see the sign on the floor;

藤田嗣治, Tsuguharu Leonard Foujita

私の元上司は芸術を愛する素敵なおじさんです。たくさんのミュージカルに連れて行ってくれたり、私とハニーをサイモン＆ガーファンクルのシアトルでのコンサートに招待して下さいました。彼がこの日本人芸術家、レオナルド藤田嗣治（つぐはる）の本を送ってくれました。表紙を見た時、この男性が明治時代の日本男児とは信じられませんでした。だって、イヤリング、ブレスレット、指輪をつけているんですもの！

My ex boss is a really nice guy who loves arts. He used to take me to many musicals and he invited me and my honey to go to Simon & Garfunkel’s concert in Seattle. He sent me this book about a Japanese painter, Tsuguharu Leonard Foujita. When I looked at the front cover, I could not believe this guy was a Japanese man from the Meiji era. Because he was wearing an earring, a bracelet, and a ring！

藤田は1886年に日本で生まれ、２６歳の時に美術を勉強するためにパリへ渡った。彼は今やとても有名なモジリアーニ、スーチン、ピカソ、マチスなどと深い交流を持った。彼のアパートにはお湯の出るお風呂があったので、たくさんのモデルが彼の元を訪れ、お返しに彼のモデルをした。そのなかの一人がキキであった。彼はキキをモデルに「Nu couché à la toile de Jouy」を描いたことにより、彼は有名になった。彼はとても有名になり当時パリにいた日本人はいつも藤田を知っているかと聞かれたほどだった。１９３９年に彼は日本に帰り、「兵士に勇気を与える」戦争画を書くことを政府に頼まれる。彼は献身的にたくさんの絵を書いたが、第二次世界大戦が終わった頃には、彼は戦犯だと非難された。結局1070人の戦犯には一人も画家の名前はなかったが、藤田は傷つき、裏切られたと感じた。彼は日本を大変愛したが、フランスに戻り帰化し、カソリック教徒となった。レオナルドはレオナルド・ダ・ビンチからとったカソリック名である。彼の最後の作品はフランスにあるランスという街にある教会の建設と、教会内のフレスコ画だった。完成の３ヵ月後彼は他界し、彼のお墓はその教会にある。

Foujita was born in 1886 in Japan and went to Paris to study painting when he was 26. He became close friends with artists such as Modigliani, Soutine, Picasso, Matisse, who are now very famous. Lots of models visited him since he had a hot bath tub in his apartment and they modeled for him in return. One of them was Kiki. He painted her in “Nu couché à la toile de Jouy” and it made him famous. He became so famous that every Japanese people in Paris at that time were asked if they knew Foujita. In 1939, he went back to Japan and asked by the government to do war paintings which “give courage to Japanese soldiers”. He devoted himself for this task but by the time the WWII finished, he was blamed that he was a war criminal. Although no artists were in 1070 war criminals at the end, Foujita was hurt and felt betrayed. He really loved Japan but he went back to France and took French nationality and became Catholic. Leonard is his Catholic name, taken from Leonard De Vinci. His last work is to build and paint a chapel in a town called Reims in France. He passed away three months after the completion of the last work and he was buried at the chapel.

この本を読んで彼が自分のオリジン（起源）を忘れずにオリジナリティ（独創力）を追求した偉大な国際的な日本人だったということを学んだ。また、彼はとても思いやりのある人だった。将来、世界の国々に存在する彼の作品を見てみたい。藤田と同じオリジンを共有することを誇りに思う。

I learnt from this book he was a great international Japanese artist who sought his own originality without forgetting his origin. He also was a very thoughtful person. In future, I would like to see many of his paintings which exists in many countries across the world. I feel proud that I share the same origin with Foujita.

Antony and the Johnsons at the Red Room

昨晩はAntony and the Johnsonsのライブを見に行った。場所は初めて行ったRed Room。小さいせいか、お客さんでぎゅうぎゅう詰め（Zulu recordの兄ちゃんもいたよ）。やっとこさ、座れる場所を探して、聞きに入る。しかぁし！バーの冷蔵庫の音、ウェイトレスがチップ勘定する音、ウェイターが話しする音、などのノイズで音楽が遮られる。Red Room最低。しかも、チップ勘定してたネーちゃんは、勘定後、その汚い手でお客さんにお酒作ってたし。きぃもぉ。という訳で全然楽しめなかったライブ。涙。Antony ごめん、君のせいじゃないんだよぉ。

Antony and the Johnsonsの音楽は全部静かな曲なので、今度ライブする時は是非、席に座ってくつろいで聞きたい。

I went to see Antony and the Johnsons last night. We went to the Red room, which was our first visit. The venue was small and packed with people (I saw a dude from the Zulu records). Anyhow, we found a place to sit and started to listen to the music. But! Because of bar fridge noise, waitress’s counting tips noise, waiters chatting noise, the music was interfered with these noises. The red room is the worst venue I had ever been. Moreover, the waitress who was counting tips, after counting, she served drinks with the manky hands! Yuk. For these reasons, this live was not an enjoyable one. Sorry Antony, it’s not your fault.

Since Anhony and the Johnsons music is rather quiet, I really want to sit down comfortably and listen to the music next time.

Friday night out…

金曜の夜は飲みに出かけた。「君ら、また飲みに行ったん？」と誰か言ってません？今回は行った事がないパブに行った。一番目はNelson Café. こじんまりとしたパブ。Granville Lagerのピッチャーが$12.50。ピッチャー(約１．７L）←はパイントグラス３杯分。イギリスでもカナダでもビール１杯注文するときは「パイント」で頼む。「ギネス一杯下さい」だと、”A pint of Guinness, please”となる。

We went out drinking on Friday night. Is anybody saying “Guys, drinking again!?” This time, we visited pubs where we’d never been to. First one was the Nelson Café. It’s a small cosy pub. A pitcher of Granville Lager was $12.50. A pitcher (about 1.7 litre)←is 3 pints. You order with “pints” for a glass of beer in Britain and Canada.
二つ目のパブは西海岸風兄ちゃん姉ちゃんで混んでいたLoose Moose。金曜と土曜の午後６時から閉店までの間、お得なセットがある。Big Rock Grasshopperというビール１杯と大きい手作りハンバーガーがセットで$7.25。ここではビール１杯が$5.25なので、ハンバーガーは$2ちゅうことになる、めちゃおいしかった。この後またピッチャーを頼んでパブを出た。

Second pub was the Loose Moose, packed with West Coast dudes and chicks. They have a great deal on Friday and Saturday from 6pm to close. $7.25 for a chunky home made hamburger with a pint of Big Rock Grasshopper. A pint is $5.25 here, so the burger was $2.00 and tasted great! After this, we had another pitcher and left the pub.


３軒目はPumpjack。ここは男性ゲイバー。いつもお店の前には中に入るのに長蛇の列だが、昨晩は列なし。ゲイバーには行ったことがなかったし、いつもどんなとこだろうと好奇心があった。ハ二‐に行ってみようよと提案。そこには約２００人の男子、女子は私を含んで３人。みんなハ二‐のことばっかり見てた。数人ハンサム兄ちゃんがいたが、ほとんどポパイに出てくる　ブルータス／ブルート←みたいなマッチョマンばっかりだった。ビール１杯めちゃ早く飲んで退散。

Third pub was the Pumpjack. It’s a men’s gay bar. There’s always a line up to go in, but not last night. I’d never been to a gay bar and wanted to see what it’s like. I suggested my honey to go in. There were about 200 men and 3 women including me. People were looking at my honey. There were a few handsome guys but mostly they were macho men like Brutus/Bluto← in Popeye. We quickly finished a pint and left.


二日酔いはひどくなかった。朝食はしっかり食べたよ。スモークサーモン、スクランブルエッグのせベーグルと二日酔いに良いりんご。
Hangover was not so bad this morning. We had big breakfast. Smoked salmon and scrambled egg on bagel with slices of apple which is good for hangover.

ひな祭り　Girls’ day…

３月３日は日本ではひな祭り、女の子の日である。こんなかわいい人形達がこのお祭りの象徴であって、王子さまとお姫様の昔の結婚式を見せてくれる。この習慣の詳細はウィキペディアへ。

March 3rd is Hina-matsuri, Girls’ day in Japan. This pretty dolls are the symbol of the festival, which shows an old Japanese wedding of a prince and a princess. Go to Wikipedia for details of this custom.
桜子さんのブログを見て今日ひなまつりだと気づいた。大抵、桜子さんのように色彩豊かな可愛らしいお寿司を作る。私はちらし寿司を作って、ハ二‐と妹と食べた。漬けマグロとうなぎをのせた。うま！真中にあるのはひな祭り限定版キャラメルコーン。

I saw Sakurako-san’s blog and realised it’s Hinamatsuri today. We normally make colourful pretty sushi like Sakurako-san’s. I made Chirashi sushi and had it with my honey and my sister. We had soy sauce marinated tuna and eel on top. Yum! The package in the middle is a snack called Caramel Corn but Hina-matsuri limited version.
