去年11月にバンクーバーに来てくれたMagic Numbersが再来訪! 今回は１１月にリリースされるニューアルバムの新曲を数曲演奏してくれました。ニューアルバムが出たら、また来てくれることを祈ります。試聴はこちら。

The Magic Numbers who came to Vancouver last November, visited here again!  They played a couple of songs from the new album which will be released in November. I hope they will come here again after the release of the new album.  You can listen to their music here.

Franz FerdinandとDeath Cab for Cutieのコンサートに行ってきた。コンサート会場に到着すると友達姉妹に偶然に会う。彼女達は日本に住んだことがあって、その時から家族の友達である。18歳の時に初めてバンクーバーに来て、1ヶ月ホームステイをさせて貰った。その時は英語をきちんと話せなかった。色んな所に連れていってもらって楽しい思い出がたくさんある。その10年後に移民するとは思ってもいなかった。彼女達とは２年ほど会っていなかったので、久しぶりに会えて本当に嬉しかった。彼女達は二人とも２児のママで、音楽がとても好き。最近はどんな音楽を聴いているとか色々話して、今度一緒にコンサート行こうねと約束した。

We went to see Franz Ferdinand and Death Cab for Cutie.  When we arrived at the venue, we coincidently met our old friends who are sisters.  They have lived in Japan before and my family has been friends since then.  When I was 18, I came to Vancouver for the first time and they let me stay at their home.  I could not speak English much that time.  They took me to many places and I have lots of fun memories.  I didn’t know I was going to immigrate here after 10 years from that time.  It was so exciting to see them again since we hadn’t seen them for about 2 years.  They are both mamas of two beloved children and they love music.  We talked about what we listened to and we promised we will go to a concert together sometime.

席についてDeath Cab for Cutieを鑑賞。実はFranz FerdinandよりDeath Cabを楽しみしていた。すぐ近いBellinghamの出身だけあって、バンクーバーにファンが多い。コンサートはいつもチケットは売り切れである。1997年に結成され、アルバムは７枚も出している。その中の秀作、”Plans”は予習した。Wikipediaによると、Death Cab for Cutieという変わったバンド名は1967年にリリースされたイギリスのBonzo Dog Doo-Dah Bandのアルバム、Gorillaの中にある曲名。この曲はビートルズの映画, Magical Mystery Tourでも演奏されたそうだ。Death Cabのコンサートはとても良かった。他のアルバムも買わなければ。Album, Plansでは、”I will follow you into the dark”　と “Soul Meets Body”がお気に入り。試聴はこちら。

We went to our seats and enjoyed Death Cab for Cutie.  Actually, I was looking forward to Death Cab more than Franz Ferdinand.  There are many fans in Vancouver because they are from Bellingham which is very near here.  Their concert tickets are always sold out.  They formed this band in 1997 and already released 7 albums.  I have studied one of their best albums, “Plans”.   According to Wikipedia, the weird band name, “Death Dab for Cutie” comes from a song in an album called Gorilla.  It was released by an English band, Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band in 1967.  Apparently this song was played by the Beatles in their film, “Magical Mystery Tour”.  Death Cab’s concert was very good.  I want to listen to other albums.  My favorites in “Plans” are “I will follow you into the dark” and “Soul Meets Body”.  You can listen to them here.

Death Cabが終わり、休憩。すると見かけた顔の男性が私達の前に立っていた！Da Vinci’s Inquestのかっちょいい刑事Mickを演じていた、Ian Traceyだ!　残念ながら、このドラマは先日終わってしまった。面白かったのにな～。ＣＢＣのバカ野朗。全然面白くないコメディ番組”Royal Air Farce”を先に終わらせてほしかった。

There was a break after Death Cab.  There was a man standing in front of us who looks very familiar.  That’s Ian Tracey who was acting a cool detective, Mick, in Da Vinci’s Inquest!  Unfortunately their series ended the other day.  It was a very good show.  Stupid CBC.  They should have finished not-funny comedy program “Royal Air Farce” first.

Franz Ferdinandが始まる。彼らを見るのは３度目（１度目、２度目）。曲を色々アレンジして演奏していた。途中で、Death Cab for Cutieがゴリラの格好で乱入したり、みんなでドラム演奏をしたりした。コンサートの最後にロケンローラーっぽく、セットを壊したけど、楽器は壊してなかった（笑）。

Franz Ferdinand started.  It’s third time to see them (first time, second time).  They played very well, arranged each song differently.  During the concert, Death Cab who wore Gorilla costume broke into the stage, then all of them played drums.  At the end of the concert, they broke the set as if they were rock’en roller but they didn’t break their instruments.

Jurassic 5のライブは最高だった,YO! 彼らのことを知ったのは、4人のＭＣの一人Chali 2na (チャーリー　トゥナ、写真中央後ろ）をRoots Manuvaのアルバムで聞いたことからだった。２年振りのバンクーバーでのライブは大好きな歌、「After school special」で始まった。 会場はノリノリのお客でごった返していた。Chali 2naは始終笑顔を絶やさず、お客とのコミュニケーションをとるすごいエンターテイナーだった。他のＭＣ、Akil, Zaakir, Mark 7evenと４人が歌っているのを見た時は、４人のＭＣのパワフルなリズムと声の調和にシビレタ。DJ Nu-markのプレイはターンテーブルが楽器みたいだった。Jurassic 5はの歌詞はポジティブなメッセージが伝わってくるものばかりで、Fワードとか全然言わないんだけど、「Freedom」を歌う前におもいっきり、”FUCK GEORGE BUSH！”と言った。ニューアルバム、「Feedback」も７月にリリースされるそうで、待ちどうしいな～。彼らの音楽はこちらで試聴できます。

今晩はFranz FerdinandとDeath Cab for Cutieのライブに行ってきま～す。

Jurassic 5‘s concert was the best, YO!  We got to know them when we heard Chali 2na (the big dude in the middle in the photo) in a Roots Manuva‘s album.  It had been 2 years since their last concert in Vancouver and the concert started with my favourite song, “After school special”.  The venue was surged with dancing people.  Chali 2na was a great entertainer, smiling and communicating with the audience all the time.  When all the 4 MCs, Akil, Zaakir, Mark 7even were singing, I was completely caught up with their powerful rhythm and harmoney of their voice.  DJ Nu-mark was playing a turn table like an instrument.  Jurassic 5’s lyrics are very positive and don’t say F word at all, but they said “FUCK GEORGE BUSH” before singing their song, “Freedom”.  Their new album, “Feedback” is going to be released in July.  We cannot wait!  You can listen to their music here.
