Good things in Vancouver

Hot Hot Heatのコンサートに行ってきました。チケットは売れ切れだったそうだけど、コンサートの感想は「疲れた」。だって火曜日なのに、午前１２時から開始(T0T)。普通だったら寝てますよ！かわいいギャル達も最終バスに乗らないといけないのか、渋々午前１２時半に帰ってました。かわいそうに。試聴はこちら。

キーボード＆VocalのSteve BaysはThe KillersのBrandon Flowersみたいでした。お姉ちゃん達もきゃーきゃー言ってました。歌は上手でした。この晩Hot Hot Heatが始まるまでエンターテインしてくれたのが、このムキムキ男子３人↓。全く同じ服を来て、スキンシップも過激に色んな女性をナンパしてました。こんな風にナンパする事、英語でSharkingって言うそうです。ほんとに彼ら、ジョーズのサメみたいでした。

We went to see Hot Hot Heat. The tickets were sold out but my impression of the concert was “tiring”. The concert was on Tuesday and it started at midninght. I am normally asleep by then! Some pretty girls had to leave the venue as well, maybe because they had to catch the last bus or something. Poor girls. You can try Hot Hot Heat music here.

Steve Bays who does Keyboad & vocal looked like Brandon Flowers from the Killers. Lots of girls were screaming at him. His singing was good. Until the time Hot Hot Heat was on the stage, these three macho guys↓ were entertaining us. They were all wearing the same clothes and chatting up lots of girls with aggressive skinship. I learnt you say “sharking” when you chat up somebody like this. They were really like the sharks in the Jaws.

Watch out for the sharking brothers!

☆Hot Hot Heat – Tue March 21@ Red Room
バンクーバー島にある州都ビクトリア出身のバンド。去年はWeezer & Foo Fightersのツアーの前座を務めました。2005年にリリースされたアルバム、Elevatorはベリグー。 試聴はこちら。

The band is from this province’s capital Victoria in Vancouver island. They were the opening performer for the tour of Weezer and Foo Fighters last year. I quite like the album, Elevator, which was released in 2005. You can try their music here.


☆Belle & Sebastian Fri March 24 @ Commodore Ballroom
いとこのＫくんも大好きなバンド。ニューアルバム最高! スコットランドから遥々来てくれるのですが、チケットは既に売切ているので、行けない。とても残念。素敵なニューアルバム、The Life Pursuitの試聴はこちら。

My cousin, K, also adores this band. Their new album is splendid. They are coming all the way from Scotland but I cannot see them since the tickets are sold out. It’s very sad. You can listen to their great new album, The Life Pursuit, here.


☆The New Pornographers, The Weakerthans and others – Fri Apr 7 @ UBC
npさんから教えて頂いたこのコンサートは第１５回Arts Country Fairという屋外のイベントで行われます。屋外のコンサートは最高ですよね。New Pornographers もWeakerthansもどちらも大好きなバンドですが、金曜日の午後12時からなので行けそうにありません。New Pornographersは地元バンクーバーのバンドなので去年のライブのように盛り上がることでしょう。試聴はこちら。Weakerthansの試聴はこちら。

I got to know the existence of this concert from np-san. It’s going to be held in an event called 15th Arts Country Fair at an open air venue, UBC Thunderbird. It’s the best thing to listen to music in the open air space. I love both the New Pornographers and Weakerthans but this concert starts from the noon on Friday. The New Pornographers are the local band so the concert is going to be wicked as the last year’s concert. You can try their music here.

アメリカのカリフォルニア州出身のHip Pop Duo。2002年にリリースされたアルバム、Blazing Arrowはイカす。

A hip pop duo from California in US. Their album, Blazing Arrow, released in 2002 is wicked.


☆Jurassic 5 – Sat April 22 at Commodore Ballroom
Hip Popの中で一番好きなＬＡのグループ6人組Jurassic 5、やっとバンクーバーに来てくれます。ポジティブな歌詞が濃縮されたＭＣが楽しみです。このアルバムのA Day At The Racesを聞くと元気になります。

Our most favourite hip pop band, Jurassic 5, from LA finally comes to Vancouver. I am so looking foward to listening to MC which is condensed with lots of positive lyrics. You get powered up if you listen to their song, A Day At The Races from this album.


☆Magic Numbers – Mon April 24 at Commodore Ballroom
去年のバンクーバーでのライブは最高でした。また今年もイギリスからやって来てくれます。いえ〜い。試聴はこちら。

☆Franz Ferdinand & Death Cab for Cutie – Fri April 28 at Pacific Coliseum
ビッグなバンド、２本立てです。これはお得！Franz Ferdinand のことはここや、ここでも紹介しました。Death Cab for Cutieはバンクーバー南のワシントン州、ベリンガムの出身。なんかそれだけで親近感が湧きます。 Death Cabを只今勉強中。

Two big bands on one night. This is reasonable! I wrote about Franz Ferdinand on this article or this one. Deatg Cab for Cutie is from Bellingam in Washington, just south of Vancouver. I feel close to them just because of this. We are studying about their music at the moment.
