あけましておめでとうございます! みなさんにとって良い一年となりますように祈っています。今年は戌年なので、昔飼っていた犬を登場させてみました。
A happy new year! I wish you a very good year for this year. This year is the year of dogs, so I put my dog’s photo who we used to have in Japan.
昨日はニューイヤーズイブパーティに行ってきました。最初は妹の友達の家でおいしい軽食と色んなお酒をご馳走になりました。
We went to New Year’s Eve party. We went to my sister’s friend’s house first and welcomed with delicious snacks and many kinds of booze.
それから、K夫婦のお宅でパーティ。テーブルの上のお酒にぶったまげました。カクテルを作ったり、新年の目標をみんなで言い合ったりしました。午前０時にシャンパンでお祝いして、みんなとハグハグタイム。午前４時まで騒いでました。今日は一日中肝臓を回復させています。
Then we went to the party at Mr. & Mrs. K’s. We were impressed with the booze on the table. I made cocktails, and talked about new year’s resolution. At midnight we celebrated with champagne and hugged each other. We partied until 4 am. We are recovering our livers day today.
ブログ友達と我が家で忘年会をしました。ブロガーの方々は、新婚Green-doriさんと旦那さま、Toonieはんと旦那さまのトン太さんと愛娘Loonieちゃん、Cz007さん、Renomotoさん、Cheery-sheepちゃん。私の夫、母と妹も参加しました。
ちゃんこ鍋をしました。皆さん色々とおいしい物をたくさん持ってきてくれました。写真を撮らなかったのでお見せできないのが残念です。その晩は、笑いすぎました。母とCzさんが意気投合し、高級ふとんを売る計画を立てていました（笑）。人生最後に何を食べると話していましたら、Czさんは納豆（しかもしょうゆも何もいれないで食べる訂正：しょうゆは入れるそうです。）。Cheeryちゃんはオムレツと答えてみんなびっくりさせました。Green doriさんの旦那様が侍のように男らしくご両親に結婚を申し入れたことや、その申し入れがお義父さんに暖かく迎えられたことに聞き入ってしまいました。その話を聞いて涙を浮かべるcz007さん、スイートでした。Loonieちゃんはより大きくなって、彼女もよう笑てはりました。Toonieはんとトン太はんはLoonieちゃんがワイルドモードな時、片手でおしめを変えれるそうです。Renomotoさんはホームレスの人達にクリスマスイブの日ターキーサンドを配った貴重な体験を語ってくれました。時はあっと言う間に午前１時になり、みなさん帰られてしまいました。楽しい宴でした。
I had a year-end party (held to help people forget the troubles of the past year) at our house with blog friends. The bloggers were Green-dori and her newly wedded husband, Toonie and her husband, Tonta and their beloved daughter Loonie, Cz007, Renomoto, and Cheery-sheep. My husband, mother and sister came to join us as well.
We had Japanese hot pot and everybody brought something delicious. It’s a shame I cannot show them since I didn’t take any pictures. I laughed so much that night. My mum and Cz007 got on very well and they were planning to sell deluxe futons together (lol). We talked about what would you eat as the last meal in your life. Cz007 said it would be Natto (fumented soya beans) without any sauces and spices (correction: only with soy sauce). Cheery sheep surprised us when she said it would be an ommelette. Everybody listened to the story of how Green-dori’s husband asked marriage to her parents in a macho Samurai way and his prorposal was warmly welcomed by her father. I saw cz007 had tears in her eyes when she was listening to their story, which was sweet. Loonie was grew bigger and she also laughed so much. Toonie and Tonta can change dipers with just one hand when Loonie is in wild mood. Renomoto told us how she distributed turkey sandwiches to homeless people on Christmas eve. The time went so quickly and everybody left when it was 1 am. It was a fun party.
クリスマスディナーのレシピは夫の妹がタイプして送ってくれました(レシピはこちら)。ですので、夫の家族と私の家族のクリスマスディナーは同じでした。買い物リストを作って、夫が買出しに行ってきてくれました。イギリスでは簡単に手に入る食材が、こちらでは見つけるのが困難な物もあったそうです。ジュニパーベリーズ↑（スパイス）、チコリー（野菜）、ブリオッシュ（パン）が見つかった時は電話がかかってきました。
My husband’s sister typed and forwarded us recipes for Christmas dinner (the recipe is here). So my husband’s family’s and our family’s dinner were the same. I made a shopping list and my husband went for shopping for the dinner. Some of the ingredients which are easy to find in Britain were difficult to find here. My husband rang me when he found Juniper burries↑ (spice), chicories (vegetable), and brioches (bread).
これ↑は義妹が作った、前菜。３種類の魚のパテです。私はイブの日に作って、K夫婦のディナーに持っていきました。我が家のクリスマスディナーの前菜はスモークサーモンと母がスティーブストンで買ってきてくれた、甘エビでした↓。
This ↑was the starter that my sister in law made, some kind of fish pate. I made this on Christmas eve and brought it to Mr. & Mrs. K’s dinner. Our starter for Christmas dinner was smoked salmon and sweet prawn which my mum bought in Steveston↓.
そしてメイン（↑夫の両親宅、我が家↓）はローストハム。２４時間色々なスパイスでマリネして、３時間色々な野菜と一緒に煮て、４５分ローストしました。ジュニパーベリーズ、コリアンダーシード、フェンネルシード、八角、クローブのスパイスがよく調和していました。準備の時間はかかりましたが、手間はあまりかかりませんでした（これも義妹の良いレシピ選択のおかげです）。付け合わせに、チコリーのクリーム煮、赤キャベツのクランベリー煮、コルカノンというキャベツ入りマッシュド・ポテト。
Then the main (↑at my husband’s parents’ house, at our house↓） was roasted ham. The ham was marinated with many kinds of spices for 24 hours, boiled with many kinds of vegetables for 3 hours, then roasted for 45 minutes. The spices such as juniper burries, coriander and fennel seeds, anise, cloves were blended very well. It took time for preparetion but not much effort (thanks for my sister in law’s good selection of the recipe). The ham was served with cramy braised chicory, jewelled cranberry and red cabbage, and Colcannon which is mushed potatoes with savoy cabbage.
デザートは夫が作ってくれた、ブレッドアンドバタープディング。最高!
The dessert was bread and butter pudding which my husband made. It was the best!
ディナーの後はK夫婦がプレゼントしてくれた、カナダ版モノポリー、カナダポリーで遊びました。弟はモノポリーするのが大好きなので、ゲームの準備も銀行役も率先してやってくれました。楽しい夜でした。
After the dinner we played Canadian version Monopoly, called Canada-poly which was a present from Mr. & Mrs. K. My brother loves to play Monopoly so he took the initiative to prepare the game and do the bank. It was a fun night.
K夫婦がイブの日にディナーに招待してくれました。わ〜い、わ〜い。ディナーは、カレーレンティル豆スープ、ローストターキー、スタッフィング、オレンジとアーモンドのサラダ、ローストポテト。お料理はおいしくて、しあわせになりました。
ジンジャーブレッドハウスを作りました。見本の写真と全然ちゃうがなっ！とツッコミを入れないで下さい。
Mr. & Mrs. K invited us for dinner on Christmas Eve. Whoo hoo! The dinner was curried lentil soup, roasted turkey, stuffing, orange and almond salad, roast potato. The meal was delicious and made me happy!
We made the gingerbread house. Don’t tell me the house looks completely different from the sample photo.
これは去年母が作った、ジンジャーブレッドハウスです。よくできてたね。
This was the gingerbread house that my mum made last year. It was very well done.
ハイアットホテルには世界一大きなジンジャーブレッドマンが飾られています。これがほんとに世界一？と疑いましたが、このジンジャーブレッドマンはギネスブックに記録されているとウィキペディアに書いてありました。
他にもヘンゼルとグレーテルが入ってしまいそうな、ジンジャーブレッドハウスがたくさんありました。
There’s the world largest gingerbread man at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. I doubted it was the world largest but it was witten in Wikipedia that this gingerbread man is the largest recorded in the Guinnes Book of Records.
There were many other gingerbread houses which Hensel and Gretel might go in.
イギリスにいる夫の両親にiSightを送りました。iSightはMacのウェブカムで、ビデオチャットが出来ます。今朝はそのウェブカムを使って、オンラインで夫の家族とビデオチャットしました。初めてのビデオチャット、とても楽しかったです。まるで、夫の家族が目の前にいるようでした。テクノロジーばんざ〜い！

We sent an iSight to my husband’s parents. iSight is a webcam for Mac and you can video chat. We used the webcam this morning and we video-chatted. It was our first video chatting and it was so much fun. It was as if my husband’s family were in front of us. Banzai for technology!

NHL (National Hockey League)、Vancouver Canucks VS Calgary Flamesの試合を見てきました。当日は満席で、観客数は18,630人でした。
I went to watch a NHL (National Hockey League) game, Vancouver Canucks VS Calgary Flames. Seats were full on that night and the number of audiences were 18,630 people.
試合前に国家斉唱します。この時はスペシャルゲストで、World Junior Championship (ジュニア世界選手権）に出場するチームカナダが紹介されました。将来のスター達です。
You sing an anthem before a game. Team Canada for the World Junior Championship was introduced that night as special guests. These guys are future stars.
Calgary Flamesの名ゴールキーパー、Kiprusoffの登場です。かっこいい〜。Star goalie, Kiprusoff of Calgary Flames appeared. He is so cool.
我Vancouver Canucksチームも登場です。みんな男前〜。Our Vancouver Canucks appeared as well. Everybody is handsome.
FACE OFF!
第一試合でJovoことJovanovskiがとっくみあいの喧嘩。Jovo a.k.a. Jovanovski got into a scuffle in the first game.
Punch punch!
試合の間の休憩では、Canucksのキャラクター、シャチが飛んできます。シャチが落とすギフト券に手を伸ばす観客達。
During breaks between games, the orca, Canucks’ character, flew around the stadium. The audiences were trying to reach the gift certificate that the orca was about to drop.
休憩の間に、シンクロナイズド・スケートも見れました。During the breaks, they also showed syncronized skating.
カナックスゴール！結果、５−５でオーバータイムに入り、最後はシュートアウトで、負けてしまいました(
T0T)。でもとてもスリリングな試合でした。Go Canucks Go!
Canucks goal! As a result, the game ended with 5-5, played overtime, Canucks lost in the shoot out, but it was a very thrilling game. Go Canucks Go!
１２月２１日（水）の夜にランターン（ちょうちん）フェスティバルが、バンクーバーの各地で開催されます。冬至の日なので、日が長くなるのをお祝いしようということです。私もランターン持ってお祭りに行ってみよ。
On the night of Wednesday, December 21st, the Lantern Festival is going to be held many places in Vancouver. It’s the shortest day of the year and the festival is to celebrate the return of the sun. I should go to the festival with a lantern.

日本では２２日に「1００万人のキャンドルナイト」というのがあるんですね。家の電気を2時間消して、ロウソクで生活するってロマンチックですね。
In Japan, there’s an event called “1 million people’s candle night” on the 22nd. Turn off the electric lights for 2 hours and spend the night with candles, which is quite romantic.

レンタル屋さんに「やめとけ」と止められました。でもおもしろかったよ。暴力的なシーンがないし。ファンタスティック・フォーは１９６１年に始まった、アメコミ。ある４人が宇宙飛行している時に宇宙線（宇宙の放射能らしい）を通過して、スーパーパワーを得る。いろんな力を持ったスーパーヒーローが悪に立ち向かう。この映画はバンクーバーで撮影されました。ファンタスティック・フォーの一人、ミスター・ファンタスティックの研究所はこのビルがロケ地でした。
The rental shop said “Don’t do it!”, but it was quite fun. There weren’t much violent scenes either. Fantastic Four is an American comic which started in 1961. Four people who were flying in the space got attacked by space rays and gained super powers. These super heroes who have different powers stand against the bad guy. This movie was filmed in Vancouver. One of the Fantastic Four, Mr. Fantastic’s office was filmed in this building.

お昼休みにまた通ると撮影していた。撮影のおっちゃんに「X-men撮ってんの？」と聞くと、答えは「Yeah!」だった。Wolverineにいつか会えることを祈っています。
They were filming when I passed here again at lunch time. I asked one of the film crews, “Is this for X-men?” and he said, “Yeah!”. I am praying to meet Wolverine one day.
