イギリスのクレイアニメ、Wallace & Gromitの初の長編映画、The curse of were-rabbit (邦題：野菜畑で大ピンチ！)を見てきた。登場するキャラクターはクレイ（粘土）で出来ていて、それを少しずつ動かし、コマ撮りしてアニメーションにする。日本ではグリコのＣＭにこのキャラクターが使われそうですね。主人公のWallaceはチーズ愛好家の発明家で、Gromitは話すことはできないが、何でも分かる賢明な犬で、編み物が得意。Wallaceの日本語の吹き替えは、萩本欽一さんだそうで、聞いてみたいです。

1990年にリリースされた、最初の作品, A Grand Day Outから見ているが、やっぱりいつも笑わせてくれる。今回も、映画館にいたチビっ子達に混じって笑った。


We watched British “claymation”, Wallace & Gromit, The curse of were-rabbit, which is their first feature length film. All the characters were made from clay, and filmed with stop motion animation. These characters were used for Glico adverts in Japan. The main character, Wallace is an inventor and cheese lover, Gromit cannot speak words but is a clever dog understands everything and also good at knitting. In Japan, Wallace is dubbed by Kinichi Hagimoto, which I love to listen to.

We have been watching this series from the first one, A Grand Day Out in 1990 and each one makes us laugh. We laughed this time as well with the kids in the cinema.

Snow!

今朝はヒジョーに寒く、ベットから出るのに勇気が要りました。外を見ると、山には雪が積もっていました。

This morning was so cold and I needed to call up my courage to get out of my bed. When I looked outside, mountains were snowcapped.

The tallest building in Vancouver.

バンクーバーのダウンタウンに60階建てのShangri-la ホテル＆リゾートが建設中。2008年に建設完了予定で、一番高いビルになるそうだ。先ほど、このビルのホームページ (“Views”をクリック）で、ビルからの眺めを疑似体験してきた。わお。４５階から６０階はマンションとして分譲されるそうだ。どんなお金持ちが住むんだろう。

The 60-story Shangri-la Hotel and Resorts has been constructed in downtown Vancouver at the moment. The construction will be ended in 2008 and it’s going to be the tallest building in Vancouver. I just went to this building’s web site　(click “Views”) and saw the simulated view from the building. Wow. The floors between 45th and 60th will be sold as private suites. I wonder what kind of rich people are going to live there.

Globe Thistles

最近バンクーバーは雨続き。晴れ間に散歩に出かけて、このアザミを見つけました。アザミはスコットランドの国花なんです。このアザミは「ルリタマアザミ」というそうで、英語では「Globe Thistle（球型アザミ？）」だそうです。

It has been raining all the time in Vancouver recently. I went for a walk when I saw a patch of blue sky and found this thisle. The thistle is the Scottish national flower. This thistle is called “Ruri-tama azami (ruri=azure, tama=ball, azami=thistle)” in Japanese and “Globe Thistle” in English.

Purple Yam

ヤムポテト（←写真左下）が冷蔵庫に眠っていました。さつまいもと味が似ているので、人参と一緒に千切りにしてお味噌汁にしようと帰宅中考えておりました。

Yam potatoes (←left bottom) were sleeping in my fridge. On the way home, I decided to cook miso soup with shredded yam potatoes and carrots.


切ってみると。。。なにぃぃぃ！紫っ！？
それも、妖怪人間ベムみたいな紫模様でキモい。
どうやって食べるんだよ〜!?と焦りました。

ネットで調べてみると、これは、紫ヤムポテトでした。
フライにするとウマウマと書かれてあったので、急遽メニュー変更となりました。


I cut the potato… WHAAAAT! PURPLE!?
It’s creepy purple pattern like Yokai Ningen Bemu (Japanese anime character→)
How am I meant to eat this!? I got panicked.

I checked on the net and found they were purple yam potatoes. It also said deep fried purple yams were yummy. So I changed the dinner menu.


5分くらいチンして、油で揚げると、気持ち悪い模様もなくなりました。お塩かけて食べたら、結構おいしかったです。

I sliced the potatoes about 5 mm thickness and microwaved it for 5 minutes. I deep fried the potatoes and the yucky pattern disappeared. I sprinkled some salt and they were pretty good.

The Magic Numbers – After the concert

昨晩のThe Magic Numbersのコンサートは最高でした。めちゃくちゃ楽しかった〜。バンクーバーの観客がすごい盛り上があがったということで、新曲の初お披露目もしてくれました。アンコールにはビヨンセの「Crazy in Love（♪オッオー、オッオー、オッオー、オオオ♪っていうやつ）」をカバー。「なっ、なんで、ビヨンセなのよ？」と思いましたが、Magic Numbers風にアレンジされていてとてもかっこよかったです。

またバンクーバーに来てね〜!

The Magic Numbers’ concert last night was fabulous. It was so much fun. They played their new single for the first time because the concert in Vancouver grew so livelier. They covered Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love (the one which goes ♪oh ohh oh ohh, oh ohh ohohoh♪)”　as one of encores. I thought, “How come they play Beyonce?” but it was arranged in the Magic Number’s style and it was very cool.

Please come to Vancouver again!

The Magic Numbers

今晩はThe Magic Numbersのコンサートに行きま〜す?彼らはロンドン出身のバンドで、2組の兄妹で成り立っています。今年６月に、デビューアルバムをリリースしたばかり。このアルバム超オススメです。こちらで試聴できます。

今年日本である、Franz Ferdinandのコンサートの前座はThe Magic Numbersなんですってね。すごい豪華セットじゃないですか！見に行く人、い〜な、い〜な。

We are going to the concert of The Magic Numbers tonight? They are from London and consists of two pairs of brother and sister. They just released their debut album in June this year. This album is super recommended. You can listen to this album here.

I heard the opening performer of the Franz Ferdinand’s concert in Japan is the Magic Numbers. That’s a gorgeous set! I am jealous of the people who are going to the concert.

今週末はずっと雨という予報なのに、朝起きると晴れ！メイルをチェックすると、母から写真が届いていた。弟は野球の最後の練習があるので、昨晩テルテル坊主を作ったそうだ。願いが叶ったね。

The weather forecast said it was going to be rainy during this weekend but it’s very sunny this morning! I just received a photo from my mum. My brother made Teru Teru Bozu (a paper doll hung in front of the window with a wish for good weather) because he’s got the last baseball practice. His wish came true.

隣のアパートに、救急車２台、パトカー８台ぐらい来ている。何があったんだろう。。。
2 ambulances and 8 police cars are in front of the apartment next to ours. I wonder what happened…

The Japan film show

日本総領事館が主催で、ジャパン・フィルム・ショーがバンクーバーにて１１月１９日（土）開催されます。入場無料。英語での字幕あり。上映映画は「黒い雨」と「座頭市」。どちらもまだ観てない作品。

カムループスでも、「どら平太」と「ウォーターボーイズ」が１１月２０日（日）上映されます。個人的には「ウォーターボーイズ」見たいんですが、カムループスまで見に行くのはちょっと遠いです。

The Consulate General of Japan is sponsoring the Japan Film Show, which takes place in Vancouver on Saturday, November 19th. Free admission. Films are with English subtitles. They are showing “Kuroi Ame” and “Zatoichi“. I haven’t watched both of them.

“Dora-heita” and “Waterboys” will be showing in Kamloops on Sunday, November 20th. Personally I’d like to watch “Waterboys” but Kamloops is bit far to go.
