ヴェネチア国際映画賞祭銀獅子賞受賞した溝口健二監督の1954年の作品。原作は森鴎外。盗賊が母と子供二人を引き裂き、子供二人は意地悪な荘園主、山椒太夫の元へ奴隷として売られ、母親は遊女として売り飛ばされる。これだけで、すごい憂鬱になりそうでしょ？映画は日本の平安時代を映し出していて、美しいが、ストーリーが酷すぎる。
This film was directed by Kenji Mizoguchi in 1954 and received Silver Lion in Venice international film festival. It was originally written by Ogai Mori. Bandits tore a mother and two children apart. The two children were sold to the nasty Sansho the Bailiff as slaves. The mother was sold as a prostitute. Already very depressing, eh? Heian era of Japan was beautifully expressed in this film but the story was too cruel.
